-IMPORTANT..PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU MUST PLAN TO ARRIVE AT OUR EVENT BY USING THE EAST AVENUE ROUTE TO COMMUNITY ROAD AS THE NORTHEAST AVENUE ROUTE TO COMMUNITY ROAD WILL BE CLOSED TO PROTECT THE RUNNERS AND WALKERS-

-Race Day Packet Pick Up/Check In: starts at 7:45am, ends at 8:45am

Event Start Times: 1 Mile Fun/Run Walk will start at 8:45, the 5K Run/Walk will start at 9:15am.

-Parking: We have plenty of parking available that is easily accessible from Community Road (use East Ave to access Community Road) in the lots at the retail plaza, at the Community Center and near the Faithful Servants Clinic.

Restrooms: Are located in the Community Center.

Safety: Your safety is our #1 concern. Our run/walk course takes place on Community Road, then transitions to the Metro Parks Freedom Bike/Hike trail. The course takes our participants across Northeast Avenue and Howe Road. The City of Tallmadge Police Department (BIG THANK YOU TO THEM) will have officers stationed at both crossing points to assist our walkers and runners in safely crossing. Be sure to keep your eyes open and be watchful at the road crossing points for vehicles. Additionally, if you become ill or injured, or see someone who is ill or injured and require assistance please notify 911 first then a volunteer or police officer.

-Our Courses: Our 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk Course takes participants from the start/finish line on Community Road in a Northeast direction to exactly ½ mile out on the Freedom Bike/Hike Trail to the marked turnaround point and returns to the finish. Please stay to the right side at all times on the way out to the turnaround point (There will be a cone and volunteer to guide you at the turnaround) and when returning please stay to the right as well as some of our “speedier” 5K runners might return before you do. Please be mindful that the Freedom Trail will still be open to the community and you may come upon folks who are using walking, jogging or riding bicycles. Please extend them courtesy as you continue on the trail. Thank you!

Our 5K Run/Walk Course takes participants from the start/finish line on Community Road in a Northeast direction to exactly 1.55 miles out on the Freedom Bike/Hike Trail to the marked turnaround point and returns to the finish. Please stay to the right side at all times on the way out to the turnaround point and also please stay to the right when returning. (There will be a cone and volunteer to guide you at the 1.5 turnaround) A reminder when passing others on the trail to pass carefully on the left with a courtesy “passing on your left” is nice! Our water stop will be just after the turnaround point. We will have a volunteer posted at both the 1 and 2 mile marks calling out the elapsed time. Please be mindful that the Freedom Trail will still be open to the community and you may come upon folks who are using walking, jogging or riding bicycles. Please extend them courtesy as you continue on the trail. Thank you!

IS A TIMING CHIP LIKE AT POTATO CHIP? The short answer is no. We are using whiz bang race/walk timing technology to time the 5K Run/Walk. NEW THIS YEAR!…Your “Bib” number has a square plastic timing chip attached to the back.  Please you must be careful not to bend or pin the timing chip when attaching your Bib onto the front of your shirt. The chip will record your time and placement in the 5K when you cross the finish line. Please THANKS A MILLION! All Runners and Walkers ARE REQUIRED to wear your bib number on the front of your shirt. This number is an important safety feature that helps us identify you in the unlikely event of an emergency. It also allows us to congratulate you as your cross the finish line…HOOOORAY!

SPEAKING OF THE FINISH LINE.. The finish line is actually two blue mats that you will run or walk across. After crossing, please slow down and stay in order in a single file line. The “chute” will narrow and volunteers will be removing the tear off portion of your bib tag (this is our back up in case the whiz bang high tech timing goes kaflooey!  REMINDER ALL PEOPLE MUST HAVE YOUR BIB NUMBER ON THE FRONT OF YOUR SHIRT please! After they remove your tear of tag from your bib you will be offered a bottle of water.  Thanks so much and please stay for our awards ceremony which will start shortly after the last runner or walker crosses the mat. We will award the Ritchies Sporting Goods Early Packet Pick up participation gift cards during the awards ceremony. YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN!!

SORRY NO DOGGIES ALLOWED–  I love my 2 doggies, but like your dogs they are not allowed to participate our event.  Sorry…  🙂
